His Excellency Alexander Valentinovich Novak is the Minister of Energy of The Russian Federation. H.E. Novak started his career in 1988 at Norilsk mining and smelting company n.a. A.P. Zavenyagin (later JSC “Norilsk mining and smelting company n.a. A.P. Zavenyagin”). During his 12 years there, he moved from operator-hydrometallurgist to Deputy HR Director and Head of the division at the Zapolyarny subsidiary of the company. In 2000–02 H.E. Novak occupied the positions of Deputy Head of Norilsk city administration for economy and finance, then First Deputy Head of Administration. In 2002–08, he worked for the Krasnoyarsk region administration as Deputy Governor and Head of the General Department of Finance; later he served as First Deputy Governor, then Deputy Governor and Head of the regional cabinet of ministers.

In 2008, he became Deputy Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation, and has been a member of the Collegium of the Ministry since October 2010. H.E. Novak was appointed the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation on May 21, 2012. He was awarded the Order of Honour and certificates of honour by the President and the Government of the Russian Federation. He holds a degree in economics and management in metals and mining from Norilsk Industrial University and a degree in management from Moscow State University.
