Ben van Beurden is the Chief Executive Officer of Royal Dutch Shell. Previously, from January to September 2013, Mr. van Beurden was Downstream Director and had regional responsibility for Europe and Turkey. He has been a member of the executive committee since January 2013. In December 2006, he was appointed Executive Vice President, Chemicals. During his tenure in the role, Mr. van Beurden was appointed to the boards of a number of leading industry associations, including the International Council of Chemicals Associations and the European Chemical Industry Council. In January 2005, Mr. van Beurden became Vice President, Manufacturing Excellence. Mr. van Beurden joined Shell in 1983 and held a number of operational and commercial roles, spanning both upstream and downstream activities, including some ten years in the LNG business. He holds a master’s degree in chemical engineering from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. Mr. van Beurden is a Dutch citizen and is married with three daughters and a son. He enjoys reading, running and traveling with his family.
